Still family-owned today, La Palapa has never left the shore where it began.
History of La Palapa
In 1959, Rodelinda and Guy Dickey opened the first restaurant on the beach in Puerto Vallarta — back when reaching this side of the Río Cuale meant hiring a jeep, and friends called them crazy for building so far beyond town.

A Palapa Raised on the Sand
From a thatched roof on an empty beach to the family restaurant guests come back to every year.

Guillermo Wulff raised the original thatched palapa from tropical materials.
- The Early Years
It soon became known for exotic drinks in handblown glassware, seafood straight from the bay, and live music drifting down the sand.

Redesigned by Arq. Salvador Pérez in 1987 — same beach, same family.

La Palapa has been owned and run by the same family since 1959. The kitchen and the floor are the constant — most of what guests remember afterwards is not the view, it is the person who looked after them.
