Historia de La Palapa
En 1959, Rodelinda y Guy Dickey abrieron el primer restaurante en la playa de Puerto Vallarta, cuando llegar a este lado del Río Cuale significaba contratar un jeep y sus amigos los llamaban locos por construir tan lejos del pueblo. Guillermo Wulff levantó la palapa original con materiales tropicales, y pronto se hizo famoso por sus bebidas exóticas en cristalería soplada a mano, mariscos recién sacados de la bahía y música en vivo que se escuchaba a lo largo de la arena. Rediseñado por el Arq. Salvador Pérez en 1987 y aún bajo administración familiar, La Palapa nunca ha dejado la orilla donde comenzó.

A day at La Palapa
Loungers and umbrellas on the white sand by day, with service to your chair and whales passing through in season. By eight the candles are lit, the tables are down on the sand, and there is live music under the palapa — seven nights a week, as there has been for decades.

The people who run it
La Palapa has been owned and run by the same family since 1959. The kitchen and the floor are the constant — most of what guests remember afterwards is not the view, it is the person who looked after them.
